MAINLAND Tanzania soccer champions Young Africans came close to upset their Egyptian counterparts National Al-Ahly only to concede a last-gasp goal and bow out of CAF Champions League series by 3-2 aggregate in a return leg match of the last 16 played in Alexandria on Wednesday.
Young Africans striker Donald Ngoma (L) battles for possession with National Al-Ahly defender during their returnleg of CAF Champions league last 16 match played in Alexandria on Wednesday.
Yanga secured a 1-1 draw during the first leg played at home before travelling to Cairo for the second leg played in Alexandria on Wednesday.

It was the hosts who shocked Yanga midway into the second half before Yanga pulled an equaliser through their Zimbabwean import Donald Ngoma as they revived hope to perfectly stay in contention.

The match looked to head into another 1-1 stalemate as Yanga defended superbly while maintaining possession for long spells but without scoring.

However, drama unfolded inside the five added minutes of injury time when a cross from the left flank left Ahly striker unmarked to head home the winner deep into stoppage time.

Ahly won the game and the contest to wrap up 3-2 goals aggregate and sail through into the lucrative last eight of the CAF Champions League.

This is the second time in three years for Al Ahly to dump Yanga at this stage of the CAF League after the Egyptian side dispatched the Tanzania team through shootouts in 2014 at the same venue.
The tension-packed encounter was full of action and Yanga looked highly composed winning

possession much to the frustration of the hosts who were wildly cheered by their fans in a half packed stadium.
Following the elimination from the CAF Champions League, Yanga have been drawn to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup against Angola side
Sagrada Esperance.
The first leg of the match will be played between May 6-7 in Dar es Salaam before the return leg to be played two weeks later in Angola.
Yanga line-up:
Deogratiius Munishi, Juma Abdul, Oscar Joshua, Vincent Bousou, Nadir Haroub, Thaban Kamusoko, Simon Msuva, Haruna Niyonzima, Amisi Tambwe/Malimi Busungu, Deus Kaseka/Kelvin Yondani.
