Eating an egg a day can help young children with malnutrition increasing the length according to a survey of six months in Ecuador.
It does not matter if it is what is boiled or fried, and researchers say it is less expensive to prevent stunting.
The first two years of life are very important for the development and stunted growth can bring serious consequences.
Poor nutrition is a major cause of stagnation, with a prevalence of childhood diseases.
According to the World Health Organization, WHO, 155 million children under five years old are stunted (too short for their age).
Most of them live in countries with low income and middle and health professionals have been seeking ways to deal with the issue.
Lora Iannotti and colleagues performed experiments in the rural highlands of Ecuador and to give very young children (aged six to nine months) eggs, to see if it will help them.
Only half among 160 children who participated in the experiment were fed egg every day for six months - the rest were tracked only for reasons of symmetry.
Stunted not seen much of those who fed the eggs after the experiment ended. Infections were 47 percent below those who do not eat egg.
Some of the children in the other group ate eggs, but not every day.
The main researcher Bi Iannotti said: "We were surprised and cheap brought by this experiment.
"And it's very good to be a very effective way especially for people living in difficult circumstances or those with nutritional deficiency."
Eggs contain a mixture of minerals, which are important, "he said.
WHO recommends mothers worldwide suckle infants to six months to fully grow up healthy. After the first six months, babies should be given complementary foods and continued breastfeeding up to two years old or more.
British nutritionist Agency linshauri: "Despite that eggs are good food, it is very important to young children might different types of foods. Not only for the vitamins and minerals they need, but also give them a different taste experience.
"Large numbers of protein foods should be given to young children, including eggs, beans, fish, meat and milk."
