Off grid power provider Mobisol Tanzania has launched operations and opened a new hub in Bagamoyo District as part of its expansion strategy to roll out the service across the country.

The company said in a statement yesterday that similar hubs will be soon launched in Kagera, Mara and Dodoma regions.

The company offers affordable high quality solar systems designed in Germany. To date, Mobisol has provided solar power to over 40,000 households in Tanzania and Rwanda.

Marketing Manager Allan Rwechungura said in Bagamoyo over the weekend that the expansion plan is part of initiatives set by Mobisol to improve the lives of Tanzanians under the “Maisha ni Bora Zaidi na Mobisol” campaign. The drive allows customers to own clean, affordable and reliable energy and key household appliances, beyond just light.

Rwechungura said that the campaign targets to improve lives of hundreds of thousands of Tanzanians living in off grid areas - particularly those in rural areas where power supply is still a problem by enabling them to access affordable solar power.

“This new campaign is part of our efforts to complement the government’s ambitious plan to ensure that the rural population has access to affordable power.  We have reduced our connection cost and extended our convenient payment system that enables people to pay in instalments to further regions,” he said.

He elaborated that Mobisol has revised their offering and payment plan that will enable customers to only pay as little as 999/- per day to own a high quality solar power system at their homes and after sales warranty. The system sizes offered start at 80 watts (W), which is already bigger than most other household oriented solar home systems in the region, and are also available in 120W and up to 200W.

The systems can illuminate entire households with many efficient LED lights, and power for example TVs, laptops, fridges and charge cell phones. Rwechungura said Mobisol customers want more than only lights, and the company was pleased to electrify their households.

“One of our objectives is to enable children studying in rural areas where there is no power to have light which empowers them to increase their educational opportunities. We are also focusing on conserving the environment – while, at the same time, the electricity we provide offers an opportunity for people to utilize it for various income generating activities which improve their economic wellbeing,” he added.

He also noted that the company is committed to see its services accessed by more people in this year and the expansion program would touch Kagera, Tabora, Dodoma, Pwani regions with more regions being added continuously.
